Ministry Update
9 Feb 2010
We returned last night from our second surgical trip to Haiti since the Earthquake. Our team of 27 performed a number of life saving surgeries, and provided life saving medical care to the patients at Double Harvest. Double Harvest is now functioning as a Hospital, and is attracting some desperately sick patients. Several team members worked through our last night in Haiti to save a patient whom we operated on earlier in the day for a perforated intestine. They were successful, and he will live to see better days for Haiti.
It is very difficult to summarize the experiences of the last two surgical teams in a one page letter. The Haitian people are incredibly tough, and have put up with amazing hardships. When our team is there, Double Harvest is the highest quality medical facility in Haiti. It is a blessing to the Haitian people, and a blessing to everyone on the trips. I can’t tell you how proud I am of these teams.
We have started to spend some of the monies that were donated to us for Earthquake Relief. This past weekend, Dr Dorcinvil traveled out to Leogane, which was destroyed by the Quake, to hand out food, water, soap, etc. We spent just under $4,000 on this effort. We have given out lots of Peanut Butter (from Sam’s Club in Miami) which fights malnourishment. We have spent several hundred dollars on baby formula, and a lot of money on duffel bags to carry down supplies and food (we will re-use the bags).
This week, Dr Grace (one of our doctors) will be visiting orphanages in Port au Prince to check on kids. She is armed with a passion for saving young lives, plenty of medical supplies, and funds that you donated. It is a great combination that will save the lives of many of God’s children in Haiti. Your support allows to do all of the above, and we Thank You for the privilege of serving the Haitian people! God Bless You!
