Monthly Update – July 2016

House of Hope Orphanage in St. Michel de L’Attalaye, Haiti

Happy Summertime to you!  We hope you are staying cool and enjoying your summer days.  My family and I have been doing just that as we took a few weeks of respite back home in Kentucky.  Tomorrow we are flying back to Haiti and will be in St. Michel by late afternoon, Lord willing.  Today we had the privilege of meeting up with Living Hope Haiti’s Pastor Gueillant Dorcinvil and his lovely wife, Genese, here in Miami during our layover.  They were able to tell us about the VBS that was held earlier this month that the kids from the orphanage were able to attend.  Genese and two of her children ran the VBS… it was a lot of work!

The kids got to learn Scripture, sing, make art, participate in sports, and eat a hearty meal.  Like last year, the VBS was held at the church in Camathe, the community that the new orphanage facility is located in.  Lots and LOTS of kids attended.  The orphanage kids were bussed in and accompanied by a housemom.  Genese told me that the kids had so much fun and took great pride in themselves.  They stayed together as a group and competed fiercely in soccer – and won!  I’ve included a couple photos of the kids with other VBS participants with their soccer uniforms on.

Above: From the right to left is a housemom, MariLove, a VBS kid, Clernia, Merlineda, Daphtaelle, and Misseline.

Below: Third from the left is Walner, and to his right are a VBS kid, Esnel, and Luxon.

The orphanage construction continues to progress, but we are now in the major crunch time to get things pushed through to completion.  School begins September 5th, and we want that move to happen before then!

As soon as we get back to Haiti, we’ll be making our reservations for our big annual summer field trip.  We hope to take them to a very nice hotel with a pool that is located at a town that is only about an hour’s drive away.  The kids want to go swimming more than anything!  What fun we’ll have!

Thank you for continuing to support these growing, precious kids.
